Crispy Parmesan Chicken Meatballs – one of the most scrumptious Italian dishes, but in meatball form! These meatballs are not only flavorful, but super crispy! Very easy to make and perfect as an appetizer for parties or pairs well with spaghetti squash or spaghetti noodles.
Super Crispy Parmesan Chicken Meatballs
These chicken meatballs are truly the best meatballs I have had in a long time. Each crispy, savory bite made my taste buds dance. And when your taste buds dance – you are simply one happy camper!
These Crispy Parmesan Chicken Meatballs are baked in marinara sauce and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. Serve this with thin spaghetti, traditional spaghetti, or with spaghetti squash for a light, lower calorie and lower carb option.
Low-Carb Option and Kid Friendly Dish
Two wonderful things about these Crispy Parmesan Chicken Meatballs:
- They are perfect as an appetizer to be served with sliced bread or as a main course. As a main course, I recommend serving with spaghetti squash to not only keep it a lower-carb option, but also keep the calories down.
- It’s kid friendly! If your child loves foods like chicken nuggets, chicken fingers, or a form of crispy chicken, then its a possibility that they will love this as well!
If not, I recommend trying my Baked Crispy Spicy Chicken Nuggets! Simply omit the hot sauce, red pepper flakes, and chili powder to have plain, crispy chicken nuggets.

Crispy Parmesan Chicken Meatballs
Ingredients:
Meatballs:
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1/4 cup white onion, (finely chopped)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp minced garlic, (2 cloves)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/4 tsp black pepper, (more or less to taste)
- 1/2 tsp salt, (more or less to taste)
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Other:
- 3 cups marinara sauce, (your favorite brand)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1.5 cups plain panko breadcrumbs
- 2-3 tbsp olive oil
Garnishment:
- grated parmesan cheese
- freshly chopped basil
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Combine all ingredients for meatballs into a large mixing bowl and mix to combine. Form into 16 meatballs. To a shallow dish, add the panko breadcrumbs and roll each meatball to thoroughly coat. It helps to press gently, but keep rolled in the palm of your hand.** See Notes below.
- Place a nonstick skillet or oven-safe pan over medium heat with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once the pan is hot and the oil is heated, add the meatballs in two separate batches to ensure each side can be browned thoroughly. 3-4 minutes per side. You want the outsides to be just a light brown and crisp. The meatballs will continue cooking in the oven. Remove to plate and cover to keep warm.
- Using a paper towel, carefully wipe out the breadcrumbs that have fallen during cooking. Try to save the olive oil. Add 1 additional tablespoon of olive oil (if needed) and cook remaining meatballs. Once browned on both sides, remove skillet from heat and the meatballs to the plate.
- To the skillet, add the marinara sauce and then meatballs. To make the meatballs extra crisp - spritz lightly with nonstick cooking spray to each meatball (optional). Place into the oven to bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, cover with mozzarella cheese and place back into the oven to bake for an additional 5-6 minutes, or until the cheese has melted. Be sure the internal temperature of the meatballs has reached 165 degrees F.
- Garnish with parmesan cheese and basil. Serve with sliced bread (for dipping), your favorite pasta, or spaghetti squash.
just made the chicken meatballs and it is my new favorite dish!! so tasty. one question, what is the best way to store them? i have some left over and want to eat them tomorrow but wasn’t sure where to store them! 🙂
Hey Madison! You can store them in any airtight container just as you would any other leftovers! I use glass containers – best for reheating. 🙂
I made this last week and it turned out great! So easy and healthy. My fiance really liked them too, he wouldnt let me share the leftovers with my neighbors
Thank you so much, Beth! I’m so happy that you and your fiancé loved this recipe! The time you took to leave a comment means a lot. Hope you have a great week!
